Knocking in the Rain

Hola Como Estas?

It is a sunny happy day here in Lilburn! Sister Blaylock and I are excited that we get to stay together another transfer and work our hardest. It was a good week. We did a lot of finding and going out and talking to people. We busted out 3 or 4 hours of knocking doors almost everyday this week. It was pretty fun! Talking to people is awesome. On Saturday it was pouring and we got caught in it away from the car and got pretty wet but it made it more fun and we laughed harder. And of course we passed a street sign that we wanted a picture by so we just had to stop. Just how things roll. :)

We have been working with Q a lot this week to help her be strong and continue to grow. She told us that she has found an undeniable peace in her life and she learns more everyday as she reads the Book of Mormon. She also said that everything is making sense. She came to church on Sunday with her children and loved it. Her kids are kinda crazy though... Whooo. She had been once before and many people remembered her and said hello. She was amazed and felt loved. My testimony of the importance of members keeps on growing. She feels so welcomed and it is making the difference the friends she has made and them keeping contact with her as well. We are so excited for her. This week we invited her to pray about it and set her own Baptismal date and she set it for May 16. She is so excited to get baptized. It won't be easy and she will have obstacles to overcome but we know that she can do it.  We are doing our best to help her along the way. She also got to go to a baptism and said she can't wait for her she just doesn't want to cry in front of every one and asked is she would be the first one to do that. And we told her hardly. :)

Then we had a pretty cool experience with a family in the ward. We asked them to do an experiment with us.  We would work our hardest to find someone to teach in their home in two weeks. And we would both pray that we could find them. We were tracting a couple neighborhoods away from their house and found a Mom and 2 children. Ethel the Mom had been taught 8 years ago and attended church and wanted us to come back and talk to her children. The family we are doing this with have been praying and so have we that we could find that specific person and we know that Heavenly Father wants these families to meet each other. We taught them a lesson on Saturday and her kids want to know and are sincere in their desires and  they know some of the youth. Heavenly Father is blessing us and we are so grateful.

The Women's Broad cast was so great and I am so excited for General Conference this weekend. Elder Kopischke told us something pretty interesting, If we think of Joseph smith and how strongly James 1:5 hit him and wonder, there are a lot of people who read the Bible every day and study it and no one ever talked about that specific verse hitting them that strongly. But, Heavenly Father knew exactly what Joseph Smith needed at that time and what was going to lead him to that grove on his knees in prayer. He was prepared and ready and seeking. And that is how we should be with every meeting that we go into. Especially General Conference. Go with questions. If an all knowing being loves us that much and knows us that well, we know that he will answer our questions as long as we come prepared and seeking. I am so excited for General Conference and the opportunity that we have to watch it and ponder their words, get my questions answered, learn new things and better myself as a person. Because honestly that is what this life is for. I am so grateful. We be blessed. Christ is our Savior Redeemer and friend.

Well, I think that is all for this week. Have a great week! I love you all lots and pray for you always!

It was pouring rain - but we had to stop for this sign!

It's the Little Things

HOLA!

This week started out kind of slow but had a pretty great ending!! We had a meeting with Tara and Sister Mancilla. Sister Mancilla just asked her friend to talk to us so we got to go to her Bagel Shop and talk with her. She read the promise in Moroni 10 and she said she got chills and wants to hear more about it! We are really excited and have been praying for her all week long. We stopped by and saw her again and she is excited about reading and learning. She has a lot of faith and has been through much in the past year but we can see how Heavenly Father has prepared her to hear His message. After that appointment we taught a lady named Liliana. She is from Columbia but has lived here for many years. She said that she has many questions and doesn't know why she wants to talk to us because she usually doesn't. Her Brother in law is a member in Florida and we are so excited. She felt the spirit and we are trying to set up a church tour this week, we know if she can come to the building and feel the spirit it will touch her heart.

While we were knocking doors this week close to our house we ran into a man named Julio. He from Honduras and doesn't speak a lot of English but we were able to tell him about The Book of Mormon and a Prophet on the earth today. (In Spanish, memorized phrases are great! THANKS MOM!)  I bore my testimony of a few things in Spanish and we just know he felt the spirit. I can't say very much but it was amazing, we handed him over to the elders, but Sister Blaylock and I really felt the sincere desire in him to want to learn and he said he has many friends that want to learn as well. Even though we could only communicate with him a little the spirit was till able to testify to him, the spirit is amazing!

Then the best of all, we had a lesson with Q last night. (Bui Family) We have been working with them for quite a while now and she has been very confused and they have had trouble keeping their commitments. We stopped by to check up on them last week and she said that she has been reading. So last night we had another appointment with Sister Campbell. The spirit in the lesson was so strong and Sister Campbell and Sister Blaylock and I worked so well together, we could really feel the spirit working through us to speak to Q's heart and to her specific needs. We asked her to kneel down and pray right there and ask God if this was his true church and if she should get baptized. She said a silent prayer and stood up with a sense of peace. She said she was on a cloud because of all the joy that she felt from the spirit and that Heavenly Father told her that it is true and she wants to get baptized. She said thank you so much for not giving up on me. We are so glad that we kept loving her because Heavenly Father had a plan in mind and we get to be lucky enough to be a part of it. We talked to her about covenants and the temple and how that is our ultimate goal and why we want her to have this, because of the true joy that it brings!

I can't believe that almost another transfer has gone by. Time really is one of the most precious gifts that Heavenly Father blesses us with. I am not ready for this transfer to be done, we are just getting started!

I forgot to tell you but I drove for the first time a week ago and I was terrified! I would rather not do it again and would not be upset if I didn't have to. Some people in Georgia are crazy with that dangerous piece of metal!

Well, I think that is all for this week! Have a great week, relax be safe, have lots of fun and laugh and smile often! LOVE YOU BYE!!!

Peace, prayers and blessin's

Power and Gloom

Dear Family,

How are things? It has been a little bit of a gloomy couple of days here in Lilburn. There has been a lot of overcast skies and lots of rain, that isn't warm so I don't appreciate it. Then there is a young couple in the ward, the Rusch's. They were expecting their first child Addison she was born Wednesday and only lived until Friday and she was on many high speed ventilator machines almost her whole life. She brought so much joy with her into this life and encouraged many. Sister Rusch is the only member in her family. I know that little Addison is a missionary on the other side loving and caring for all those around her. The power of Christ's Atonement is so real. The fact that we will see our family again surrounds me with feelings of love and comfort. My heart reaches out in compassion to this amazing family. Their faith is strong and they have set a great example. We went to the funeral today for our P-day. "Mommy" and "Daddy" wrote a letter to their precious beautiful daughter that was read. I am truly grateful for the Priesthood and the spirit, it is truly a comfort and a precious gift. They will see her again.

Sorry for the gloomy paragraph now this week, Sister Blaylock and I had the opportunity to teach Sister Andriamaromanana this week and her two daughters. Maelle and Yara, they have a sincerity about them of wanting to learn. They didn't make it to church on Sunday, but we are going back this week to teach them again. They show a lot of support to their Mom who is the only member in the family and I know that Heavenly Father is blessing them with more unity because of this and opportunities to share her testimony with her daughters and husband. She is a great example and has a lot of faith.
We stopped by the Bui's on Saturday night after letting them have a break to see if they would read. She has been reading and said she felt that something is missing and she knows that it is the presence of the spirit. We invited her to keep reading and experiment with us for a time to see what would come of it and we bore testimony that if she came to church seeking her questions will be answered. We have inoculated them and are praying daily and we are leaving them in the Lords hands. I love that we are able to do that and know that they are taken care of. It all starts with faith which of course leads to action and power. While I was talking to her I felt like it was someone else. I know that the spirit was speaking through me and telling them exactly what they needed to hear. We are praying for them.

We got to meet another apostle this week Elder Kopischke pretty cool!  He gave us a lot of advice and so much counsel. I am in awe and it is I think the most powerful meetings I have ever been in. We are truly blessed. Four apostles of the Lord in just over a week. I love what he said about the spirit sometimes we think we aren't worthy enough if we aren't getting answers, but worthiness is defined as being teachable to the spirit. Truly amazing! Not that we are sinning but are we teachable. And he said stop over thinking it and just act. Don't procrastinate until you don't have to act anymore. That is so true and I have been striving to do that this week. When we are being obedient we know it is the spirit and we just need to follow it right then. Then he asked the question "You have the Holy Ghost. Are you really taking conscious advantage of it? The spirit is the single most important element." I love it. It gives me a lot to think about and that is only like 2 lines of the notes that I took -  there are still 5 more pages. It is chuck full of advice and things that Heavenly Father knew that I needed to hear. I am so grateful. We can only receive what we open our heart to in all the meetings. Revelation usually only comes to questions and it is something we have to invest in and work for. LOVE IT.

We had a lady get all ghetto on us this week... and she went all Sassy on us. HILARIOUS. I couldn't stop laughing she was telling us about all the times she got kicked out of churches and all the people she has sassed up one side and down the other. Wooo . It was pretty entertaining! I loved it. :)  Except for the spirit was not there. It is amazing how easy it is to catch on to things like, I am grateful.

Well, I think that is all for this week! Have a great week, I love you lots and you are always in my prayers.

We have a loving forgiving Heavenly Father who sent his son to pay the ultimate price. The Atonement is real and we are truly blessed as we strive to understand it more everyday.

LOVE YOU BYE!

The Faith to Find and......A Celebrity!

Hey Yall!

It had been a fantastic week here in Lilburn! We have been trying to work our hardest! It was a pretty good week. When we were teaching some investigators last transfer we met a couple named Charles and Tracy. He is Muslim and says he is open to hearing what we have to say but doesn't want to convert. We gave them our card and we hadn't seen them in a while. Then out of no where they called us and Tracy said she is interested and wants to learn. It was really cool! So this week we have got to meet with them twice. The spirit has been so strong in both of the lessons. We are so blessed to be able to meet with them again. They have a sincere desire to learn about Gods kingdom on the earth today and she said that she wants to get baptized! They are amazing, even Charles heart is softening and he asks many questions and is reading The Book of Mormon as well. Miracles do happen, it says so in Mormon.

On Saturday I got to meet Elder Quentin L. Cook AND I got to shake his hand and he told me I had a beautiful smile... Not that I'm tooting my own horn or anything but it was pretty cool. :) And he probably said it to everyone.

I love what he talked about, he is definitely an inspirited man. He talked a lot about faith. In Preach My Gospel there is a section on Praying with faith in Ch 4. I love it. He said we should put our doubts in a corner and one by one throughout our life they will be blasted away. What a cool word to use BLASTED. Ohhh yeahh. Then I was studying that this morning and in Alma 31: 30-38 it talks about how much Alma accomplished all because he prayed with faith. It is such an important attribute of our Savior Jesus Christ. There is a section about it in Ch 6 of PMG as well. I love it! So we have been trying to exercise faith this week and it is amazing how far it goes. It really is possible to do all things in the strength of the Lord as long as we believe.  Then in True to the Faith about Faith as well, it is pretty cool. It defines it so simply and helped me understand the concept a lot better. What a blessing! We need faith, that is how we receive miracles and blessing and overcome our challenges and opposition.

In 5 months time we have got to meet 2 apostles of the Lord. That is a rarity and a definite blessing, we are very blessed.

We had a really neat experience that shows that Heavenly Fathers is blessing us if we put forth the work and effort. We decided that we needed to pray with More faith, specifically for a tracting spot on Sunday. We both had a Member come in to our mind. We picked a couple of Streets around their house and we prayed for each street. We both felt good about one specific street. So we prayed and asked Heavenly Father if he would help us go about with this plan with faith. We both had the faith that there was someone there that would listen to us. Most of the doors opened. but not a lot where interested. We were walking and found this guy outside working on his car. We went towards him. We begin to talk to him and he said that He is in the process of switching over religions to the Baptist faith because his father-in -law is a pastor. He didn't seem to excited about it. We talked to him about the book of Mormon and gave him one. and said that he would look into it. We were about to leave. When we felt prompted to tell him about priesthood power and that he could have it. Sis Blaylock looked at him and said "I feel like I should tell you about what we call the priesthood before we leave". He didn't know what it was and thought only if you went to school for that you could have it. We both testified of the Power of The Priesthood and how our dads have it, and how they use it to bless our home and family.  The Spirit was so strong. He looked at us and said "Really, I can have that". We got his information and can't wait to contact him soon. He said that it was a blessing that we came by to talk to him. This experience truly built my testimony in faith. As we put that faith in Christ in helping us find those who need to hear the message we will be led and guided to those who need it and not only that we will KNOW what we need to say. I am so thankful for the Holy Ghost. We are so blessed to have it.

We meet with the Gibson's every week.  They are a hilarious older couple that are less active. She says she can't remember names so she just calls us a number I am Sister # 3. It is pretty funny. And she makes me play the piano for her every week. We conned them into coming to church when Sister Carrigan gave a talk and, they came this week because Elder Piper a member of the 70 came to our Stake Conference. It was so cool. Also Sister Andriamaromanana, she is from Madagascar and is the only member in her family. We happened to stop by a couple weeks ago right after her Mom passed away and we took here visiting teachers there this week and the Spirit prompted us to go at just the right time. She has been struggling with it. She has strong faith and is a great example to her family that are not members.

Daylight savings time killed us though... We already don't get enough sleep as it is and we lost an hour, bummer. Sometimes when we get in bed instead of sleeping we talk and laugh... maybe we have too much fun! Sister Blaylock is amazing. She has a powerful testimony and has a way of relating to others and knows how to spread the gospel. We get a long great! Missionary work is so much fun with her! It is fun all the time though. We both laugh lots. I killed another big roach last night. Nasty. VICTORY. Sister Blaylock videoed it, we were laughing pretty hard.

Well, that is all for this week! Have a great week and be happy and safe! Love ya lots!

LOVE YOU BYE!

Keep on Knockin'

Hola Familia!

Sorry I forgot to tell you, I did get both of the packages and I appreciate it lots, I was pretty excited. Thanks so much for all you do!! :) Sister Blaylock does have a GPS so we don't have to worry about it for now... Maybe the Ipads will come soon. This week Elder Quinten L. Cook and L. Whitney Clayton are coming to talk to all the missionaries and next week Elder Kopichke. We are all excited, they are like celebrities here! :)

I met someone in the ward that grew up in Tremonton and she said her Dad Calvin Hunsaker used to teach math at the High School for a long time so you might know him. Both of her parents Calvin and Nancy Hunsaker both still live there. She found Aunt Tammie in her year book it was pretty funny! Small world!

I practiced a lot of Spanish this week while tracting around our area, we gave a couple new investigators to the Spanish elders and they spoke enough English to know what we were talking about with the few things that I know and I invited him to be baptized in the first contact. It was amazing! I have no idea how I did it because it was our goal this week to invite 3. I was scared but I could just feel the spirit working through me and he said yes. It was an amazing experience.

This week was to work our absolute hardest and President Wolfert has asked us to tract/ knock doors for 2 hours a day so we did this week and we talked to a lot of people. Having meaningful conversations and invited them to strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ, it was a great week. We have some lessons scheduled for this upcoming week. We KNOW we can only do it with Heavenly Fathers help and we are excited to be companions and working together. We laugh so much and have a lot of fun. Because missionary work is supposed to be fun! We are just going to continue to knock doors and love the people and work with the ward and work our hardest. YAY!

This week in my studies I have been studying in Alma, specifically chapter 26. And it reminded me of a talk given in church vs. 5 The question should never be is the field white and ready to harvest but am I willing to thrust in the sickle with my might? Then he asks what blessing he has bestowed upon us and goes onto say that "We have been made instruments in the hands of God to bring about his great work." I am striving daily to embrace that and ask myself am I willing to thrust in the sickle with my might? What a great blessing it is to be an instrument in the hands of a loving Heavenly Father and to be able to feel his spirit work through you to the blessing of those we are talking with. I am truly amazed and grateful. What a great blessing it is to actually be used to help Heavenly Father with his glorious work and it is moving forth.

Well, I think that is all for this week! I hope that all is safe happy and well and I love you ALL have a great week! I love ya lots! Keep praying, and being happy and studying!

Love Rachel!
